Neapoli to Diakofti is the main way onto Kythira, an hour and a quarter aboard the Porfyroussa with Porfyroussa Maritime. It runs south from the Laconian coast round the shoulder of Cape Malea, water that can get lively when the wind is up. The ship is a conventional car ferry, so vehicles cross without difficulty, which matters on an island where you will want one.

Diakofti is a purpose-built modern ferry harbour rather than a village, functional rather than picturesque, and there is little there beyond the port itself.
