Nisyros to Kastellorizo Route Map

Map of the Dodecanese showing the ferry route east-south-east from Nisyros to Kastellorizo.

Nisyros to Megisti, better known as Kastellorizo, is a long crossing of around eight hours on Blue Star Ferries' Blue Star Patmos. The ship works its way southeast through the Dodecanese, usually via Rhodes, before the final stretch out to Greece's easternmost island. It is a conventional vehicle ferry with seating, decks and a canteen for the duration.

Kastellorizo is small, remote and memorable, a harbour of pastel neoclassical houses wrapped tightly around a bay just off the Turkish coast near Kas. Seafood tavernas line the waterfront and the Blue Cave along the shore is the island's best-known excursion. The film Mediterraneo brought it a wider audience, though the place itself remains tiny and quiet.

Sailings are infrequent, a couple of times a week at most, and the island's isolation means connections need planning. Current days, times and fares are shown in the timetable below, with fares starting around €18.50. Rhodes is the usual staging point for Kastellorizo, with the shortest and most regular links.
