Serifos to Milos Route Map

Map of the Cyclades showing the ferry route south from Serifos to Milos.

Serifos to Milos runs with Hellenic Seaways and Seajets, using the conventional Artemis and the high-speed Champion Jet 1 and Hyperspeed Jet 4. Crossing times range from about an hour and a quarter on the fast boats to a little over three hours on the conventional ship, which usually calls at Sifnos and sometimes Kimolos on the way. It is the standard southbound leg of the western Cyclades line.

Milos is a volcanic island best known as the find site of the Venus de Milo, and its port, Adamas, is a working harbour town wrapped around a large natural bay. Ticket offices, car hire and buses are all close to the quay. The island's appeal is its geology, the white moonscape of Sarakiniko, the coloured cliffs at Firiplaka and Tsigrado, and the syrmata boathouses of Klima.

Sailings run at least a couple of times most days through the summer. Current departures, vessels and fares are shown below. Milos is a useful hub for the southwestern Cyclades, with onward links to Kimolos, Folegandros, Santorini and back to Piraeus.

Hiring a car

Do you need a car in Milos?

Yes, a car is genuinely useful on Milos. The ferry docks at Adamas, the island's main town and bus hub, so pickup is easy and buses cover Plaka and Pollonia, but the schedule is thin and most of the striking beaches, Sarakiniko, Firiplaka, Tsigrado, sit well outside it. Some access roads are unpaved, where standard insurance is void, so compare 4x4 options at Discover Cars.

Do you need a car on Serifos?

Not strictly. Chora sits on a hill about 4.5km above the port at Livadi, and a bus, roughly fifteen minutes for two euros, runs regularly between the two in summer. A car or scooter, hired from the small handful of offices in Livadi, makes sense for reaching the island's scattered beaches, but book ahead: the rental fleet is limited and August sells out fast.
