Kassos to Diafani Route Map
Kassos to Diafani is a short hop along the chain that links the Dodecanese to Crete, run by Blue Star Ferries on the Blue Star Chios. The crossing takes around two and a half hours, leaving Fry on the north coast of Kassos and running up the eastern side of Karpathos. It is a conventional ferry, so there is deck space to sit out and watch the Karpathian coastline come into view.
Diafani is a small fishing village on the northeast coast of Karpathos, and the harbour is tiny, backed by pine-covered hills. Most people arriving here are heading up to Olympos, the mountain village known for its preserved traditional dress, dialect and windmills, reached by the mountain road or on foot along the trail. There is very little in the way of development at the port itself, which is much of the appeal.
