Katapola sits in a sheltered natural harbour on the west coast of Amorgos and is the busier of the island's two ports. It is a working village with tavernas and rooms along the water and buses up to Chora, the capital, a few kilometres inland. The Hozoviotissa Monastery, built into a cliff face along the coast, is the island's signature sight.
