This is the long westward-to-eastward run along Crete's roadless south coast, taking between an hour and a quarter and an hour and 40 minutes with ANENDYK. The Daskalogiannis, Samaria and Loutro Spirit share the service, usually calling at Sougia on the way. It is one of the better boat trips in Greece simply for the cliff scenery, which has no road anywhere near it.
Agia Roumeli is a small settlement wedged between the sea and the mouth of the Samaria Gorge, with cliffs rising immediately behind. It exists mainly to feed and water gorge walkers, and the harbour is a plain open jetty rather than a built port. No road reaches it, so everyone arrives on foot down the gorge or by boat.
