Kea to Paros Route Map

Map of the Cyclades showing the ferry route south-east from Kea to Paros.

Kea to Paros takes about seven hours on the Hellenic Seaways ferry Artemis, a conventional ship crossing from the western Cyclades into the centre of the group. It calls at other islands along the way, which is what accounts for the time. Cars and motorbikes are carried.

Paros is one of the busiest islands in the Cyclades and the arrival point is Parikia, the main town, where the harbour sits right at the edge of the whitewashed old quarter. The Panagia Ekatontapiliani, the Church of a Hundred Doors and one of the oldest surviving churches in Greece, is a short walk from the quay. Naoussa on the north coast has the livelier bars and the windsurfing beaches, while Pounta on the west coast handles the short crossing to Antiparos.

The service runs only a couple of times a fortnight, so check the dates before building an itinerary around it. Sailings, operator and current fares are shown below, starting around €15. Once at Parikia you are on one of the best-connected islands in the Aegean, with frequent onward boats to Naxos, Mykonos, Ios and Santorini.

Hiring a car

Can you rent a car in Paros?

Yes, and rental desks cluster right by the port in Parikia, most just a couple of minutes' walk from where the ferry docks. A car earns its keep here: nowhere on Paros is more than about 30 minutes' drive away, opening up marble-quarry villages and quieter southern beaches that the KTEL bus network doesn't reach directly. Compare local suppliers at Discover Cars if you'd rather not rely on the bus timetable.

Tips for the Kea to Paros ferry

  • Photography of port infrastructure and vessels is generally tolerated for personal use; however, some military port areas have restrictions, so use common sense.
  • Pack a reusable water bottle in an accessible pocket – hydration is important in summer and onboard water is expensive.
  • If you need a taxi on arrival at a small island, the queue can be long when a ferry docks – consider pre-booking or walking to your accommodation if it is nearby.
  • The bow (front) of the vessel experiences the most pitching in head-on swells; the stern tends to be smoother when seas are rough.
  • In Paros, the charming fishing village of Naoussa on the north coast is the best place to eat fresh seafood at family-run waterfront tavernas. The main town of Parikia has an impressive Byzantine cathedral built from the marble of ancient temples, and the island's beaches – particularly Kolymbithres with its sculpted granite rocks – are among the most striking in the Cyclades.
