Ferry from Lipsi to Pythagorio (Samos)

Lipsi to Pythagorio runs north from the Dodecanese to the south coast of Samos, taking about two hours on the Dodekanisos Pride and up to nearly five on the SAOS boat Saonisos, which calls at the smaller islands on the way. It is one of the more useful cross-group links, joining the Dodecanese to the Northeast Aegean without a long detour.

Pythagorio is a small harbour town named after Pythagoras, who was born on the island. It is more relaxed than Vathy, Samos's main port, with a yacht and fishing harbour under the walls of Logothetis Castle. Nearby are the ruins of the ancient Heraion and the Eupalinos tunnel, a UNESCO-listed aqueduct driven straight through a hillside in the sixth century BC, both worth the short trip out.
